Anetta Mona Chişa (Prague) & Lucia Tkáčová (Bratislava) have been working together since 2000. They explore gender relations as well as their role of Eastern European artists in a Western-dominated art world. With videos, installations, textual works, and performances they refract consumer expectations and trigger processes of reflection about gender questions, the art market, and making art.
Chişa's & Tkáčová's work has not been the expression of a search for identity, as it can often be seen in the work of artists of the older generation of Eastern Europeans; instead they focus on the post-communist world with all its changes. The gaze of the artists is directed at the concrete experiential world of individuals being subjected to the transformation process from communism to capitalism.
The show is conceived as a compilation of new pieces dealing with obsessive work (labour), the female condition and the mechanisms of translation.
